Beijing’s municipal government has issued the Beijing Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Implementation Plan (2026-2030), setting 2030 targets of more than 10,000 cumulative fuel-cell vehicles, over 40 hydrogen refuelling stations, a city-wide hydrogen industry chain worth CNY 40 billion and CNY 100 billion in combined Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei output.
The plan calls for accelerating the industrialisation of key storage and transport equipment, including liquid hydrogen transport, solid-state hydrogen storage and high-pressure tube-trailer systems, and for landing volume production projects such as hydrogen-electric integrated chassis. It also sets a goal of cutting combined vehicle and core-component costs by more than 30%.
For the composites supply chain, the policy singles out storage and transport equipment as a priority – a structural demand signal for carbon-fibre winding and thermoplastic liners and fittings used in Type IV pressure vessels.
On the industry-ecosystem side, a thermoplastic composites training and pilot base was inaugurated in Changzhou (announced 29 October 2026), jointly built by the Yangtze Delta Carbon Fibre and Composites Technology Innovation Centre, SAMPE China Mainland and Changzhou Carbon Science. Focused on aerospace and low-altitude economy directions, the base offers process validation, sample trial production and joint equipment development.
An upcoming event is the 3rd Forum on Specialty Polymer Materials Innovation and Application (19-20 November, Guangzhou), with sessions on low-altitude economy, embodied AI robots and new-energy vehicles, including in-situ polymerised thermoplastic composites for low-altitude aircraft parts.
In research, a team from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported laser-assisted in-situ consolidated winding of T700/PPS thermoplastic prepreg tape (Composites Part B 314, 2026, article 113486): surface hot-pressing raised NOL ring fatigue life by close to 3.39x and cut scatter by 82.3%.
