Para-aramid woven fabrics in several colours and weights.

Aramid Fabric Specifications
| Property | Range / option | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Fiber type | Para-aramid (Kevlar-type) | Not a stiffness substitute for carbon |
| Areal weight | 60 – 500 g/m² | Higher weights for ballistic builds |
| Weave | Plain, twill, satin | Plain for consistent coverage, satin for finish |
| Form | Full-width roll, slit tape | Slit tape supplied to prevent fraying |
| Width | Confirmed per grade | Depends on weave and roll format |
| Finish | Water-repellent / standard | Aramid absorbs little moisture but UV-sensitive |
Ranges marked “confirmed per grade” are set by reinforcement and resin selection; send us your target specification and we confirm what we can supply.
Where aramid earns its place, and where it does not
Aramid is chosen for impact, abrasion and cut resistance, and for the layers of a laminate that have to absorb energy rather than carry load. It is not a stiffness substitute for carbon: a para-aramid ply will not give you the same modulus, and using it where stiffness governs is the most common specification mistake we see. The usual pattern is carbon in the load path and aramid on the faces or the edges that take hits.
Plain, twill or satin
Plain weave gives the most consistent coverage and the least crimp-related distortion, which is why it dominates protection layers. Twill drapes more easily around compound curves and reads as a diagonal pattern. Satin gives the flattest surface and the best drape, at the cost of weave stability when the fabric is cut. Pick by what the mould and the inspection criterion demand, not by appearance alone.
Working with aramid in the shop
Two properties shape the whole process. Aramid is UV-sensitive, so parts that see sunlight need a finish that blocks it. And the fibre frays when it is cut, which is why slit tape is supplied for narrow formats — the edge is sealed rather than cut open. Resin take-up is comparatively low, so a resin content copied from a glass laminate will usually run wet.
What to send us to get a usable quote
Fibre type, areal weight, weave, form (full-width roll or slit tape) and finish. Add the resin and the process if the lay-up is already fixed. Sizes are confirmed per grade — see also carbon fiber fabrics and glass fiber products for the other reinforcement families, and send the list through contact.
