Composites industry digest from LX Composites (Danyang Lixing Carbon Products Co., Ltd.) for 25 October 2026 — five objective industry and policy signals.

Technology: full chain for thermoplastic panels + induction welding reaches aircraft-ready numbers

Donghua University unveils a “panel-making plus joining” closed loop for aviation-grade thermoplastic composites. At the 26th China International Industry Fair, the team of Prof. Zhu Shu at the Civil Aviation Composites Collaborative Innovation Center presented work on CF/PPS, CF/PEEK and CF/PAEK covering interface control, fast compression moulding, induction welding and complex-part fabrication: panel void content below 2%, tensile strength ≥750 MPa, interlaminar shear strength 85 MPa; rapid compression moulding produced what is reported as China’s first thermoplastic-composite large-aircraft structural-part prototype, recognised by COMAC; the team also developed China’s first induction welding machine, completing a CF/PPS-to-CF/PEEK joint in 15 seconds with single-lap shear strength above 35 MPa, solving weld-zone temperature control through a “universal implant layer” design. Industrialisation partners include COMAC, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical, Suzhou Kongtian Advanced Composites and Jiangsu Junhua, with applications on large aircraft, UAVs and spacecraft components. For panel and prepreg suppliers, quoting ILSS and weld-shear data alongside tensile strength aligns with how aviation and eVTOL customers actually evaluate materials. Technology: China’s first dry-wound 70 MPa Type IV hydrogen tank pilot line

Chongqing Kaila has completed a pilot line for dry (towpreg) filament winding of 70 MPa Type IV hydrogen tanks using domestic carbon fibre. Disclosed by the Fuling district government on 23 October, the HyPVessel™ line replaces wet impregnation with precisely controlled prepreg towpregs, cutting carbon-fibre usage by 20% versus wet winding; winding speed reaches 6 m/s; tested burst pressure exceeds 157.5 MPa; liner-to-valve sealing is molecular-level; maximum volume exceeds 400 L. Target applications cover hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, energy storage and UAVs. The team is led by Dr. He Peng (TUM PhD, national talent programme), with members from TUM, ETH Zurich, Imperial College and Audi/BMW R&D. Dry winding raises the bar for towpreg width tolerance, resin-content consistency and unwinding tension — the exact parameters our UD tapes are engineered around — making hydrogen-tank winding a realistic entry point for domestic prepreg suppliers. Policy: executive details of the national landmark thermoplastic-composites scenario emerge

Wuhan Urban Construction Group (WUCG) disclosed the implementation plan of the national landmark scenario. The project — No. 095 on the NDRC-led first list of 136 landmark major application scenarios — is declared as led by WUCG together with 13 units including Wuhan University of Technology (WUT), the Wuhan Industrial Innovation Research Institute, the Wuhan Aviation Materials Institute and COMAC (the WUT news release on 22 October described a 14-unit WUT-led project). Its subsidiary Wuhan Business District Group is investing in Hubei Xinghan Feihong New Materials, which builds the aviation-grade thermoplastic composites pilot platform. Signature validation products: C929 large-aircraft fuselage sections, next-generation composite aircraft seats, eVTOL, heavy-payload UAV frames, deep-sea naval electric-propulsion systems, solid-rocket motor casings and fully recyclable metro carriages. Supporting lines include 100-tonne-scale domestic LMPAEK resin synthesis, a 350 °C-capable sizing agent and high-power laser-assisted AFP in-situ consolidation, plus China’s first high-performance thermoplastic-composites database and airworthiness-standard system. Suppliers preparing material cards (modulus/strength/ILSS/void content with batch dispersion) in a comparison-ready bilingual format can position themselves ahead of the database-driven qualification gate. Industry: more capital and capacity enter thermoplastic sheet markets

3D-Chem takes a staged stake in Nanjing Hechuang (thermoplastic composites). 3D-Chem (002469), through wholly-owned subsidiary Zibo 3D New Materials, is investing CNY 15 million in Nanjing Hechuang in three stages: the first CNY 5 million tranche is complete (10% stake), two further tranches of CNY 5 million follow. Hechuang is in the “technology validation to volume production” transition, with small revenue and not yet profitable; the move is framed as premium-differentiated new-materials positioning. Sustained listed-company capital entry into early/mid-stage thermoplastic-composites ventures signals the capacity race is still accelerating — plan for mid-2027 supply competition in mid/low-end sheets and lock in higher-margin niches (low-altitude structural parts, hydrogen-tank towpreg) early. Guangdong Yinuo Phase II environmental review: +2 million m²/y of FRP thermoplastic board. The review (public comment 21–27 October) covers 13,900 m² of new floor area with 2 thermoplastic sheet lines, 2 continuous composite-panel lines, 8 pultrusion lines, plus BMC/SMC and thermoplastic-elastomer lines. After expansion, the plant will have capacity for 2 million m²/y FRP thermoplastic board, 2.2 million m²/y thermoset flat board, 15,000 t/y pultruded profiles, 500,000 m²/y sandwich panels and 5,000 t/y moulded parts. Southern-China supply of glass-fibre thermoplastic sheets and pultrusions continues to stack up; differentiation on customisable width/resin systems and small-batch fast delivery matters more than price matching for export offers. Export-control reminder: Ministry of Commerce Announcements No. 49/50/51 take effect 18 November 2026; CF fabrics and CF/PAEK(PEEK) prepregs are on the dual-use list, while CF/PA6, CF/PA12, CF/PP, CF/PC, CF/TPU and CF/PPS thermoplastic prepregs are not.
